CHILDREN AND YOUTH DANCE THEATRE
Our mission is to promote artistry, education and cultural awareness through dance
While working as an educator Andrea continued as a dancer, choreographer and dance instructor and dance workshop facilitator in her free time. She founded the Children & Youth Dance Theatre (a dance academy program for underserviced children and youth) in 1993 and the Caribbean Dance Theatre in 1995. While working with these two groups, Andrea also worked as a freelance choreographer, staging performances for the Miss Guyana/Canada Pageant, the Miss Jamaica Pageant, the Miss Caribbean/Canada pageant, and the Applause Institute’s Annual Cotillion Ball.
Today Andrea continues to lead CYDT (Children and Youth Dance Theatre) while engaging parent, and mentoring youths in the arts. She has built arts education partnerships with schools as well as community organizations. Andrea is currently the resident choreographer with the Youth Development Program and Cotillion Ball.
Once a CYDT student herself, Nakia’s journey with CYDT began at the tender age of ten when a young instructor by the name of Andrea Doulas walked into her school and introduced her to a whole new world of dance. Nakia graduated from CDT/CYDT 1999 and moved on to become a member of Caribbean Star from 2000 to 2005.
While working as an Administrative Assistant/Coordinator by day, Nakia brings her primary skills into the role of Director of Events to an organization that is dear to her heart.
“It is extremely gratifying to be a founding student and now one of the Directors of a small dance company that has evolved into the organization we have today.”
By day, Crystel Figaro is the Head of Marketing at The Rumie Initiative. Both in Crystel’s secular role, and as the Director of Marketing on the Board of CYDT, her responsibility it to drive demand to exponentially expand the reach and client base of both organizations.

As a mother of two, Crystel brings a personal passion to help CYDT succeed in its mandate to help support local youth.
