What is Modern Contemporary?
Modern dance is a broad genre of western concert or theatrical dance. CYDT combines this with Contemporary dance, which an expressive style of dance that beautifully combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancer connects the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.
This class dance stresses versatility and improvisation, using many different styles of music for it choreograpy.
What does CYDT Modern Contemporary class cover?
CYDT is proud to take its students through an exploration of the contemporary forms and techniques drawn from such dance pioneers as Dunham, Graham and Horton. These techniques are used for choreography, which is used to underscore the development of posture, alignment, strength building flexibility and endurance.
In addition to reinforcing the forms, techniques and principles taught at the beginner level, students' dance vocabulary progress to include more complex steps, jumps, turns and combinations.
At the Intermediate level, students are also given the opportunity to paricipate in choreography developed by Instructors, visiting choreographers and Artists in Residence.
CYDT hones in on some of strengths of our heritage and culture that makes us most unique as dance Studio.
In this advanced level class, we invite students to explore additional techniques and styles with elements of Afro-Caribbean and Reggae introduced.
