"And if the music is good, you dance"
CYDT offers a comprehensive roster of dance classes and programs that is designed to support a wide range of the children and youth, parents and caregivers within our community. We even partner with schools to offer in-school programming.
The Dance Company is the performing core of CYDT.
Entrance and participation is for students aged 8-16 years and is by auditions, invitation or recommendation by a class instructor.
The object of this program is to provide experiential opportunities for those with strong interests in pursuing arts at the Secondary, Tertiary and/or professional level.
The Pre-Company dance program is designed to prepare dancers for entry into the Company program. It is also an alternative option for students who cannot commit to the full Company requisites.
For dancers accepted into Pre-Company there are:
CYDT is proud to be a truly community-based program. Funded by Trillium, we work with local schools to provide in-school after school, lunch or extra-curricular dance programs!
We know that dance, when linked with the (academic) curriculum, has the ability to affect learning in the classroom, acting as a scaffold in the learning process.
Dance can be a particularly important supplement to academic education for students who are reluctant learners as it enhances their critical thinking and positively impacts their self-esteem.
